Products & Merino Wool
Material advantages, suitability for babies and practical advice.
What are the advantages of merino wool?
Merino wool offers several advantages, including:
- Thermal insulation: retains body heat and protects against cold.
- Moisture regulation: absorbs moisture and helps with evaporation.
- Odor-inhibiting: natural properties – often less washing required.
- Skin-friendly: pleasant for sensitive skin.
- Durable: robust with proper care.
Are merino wool products suitable for all babies?
Merino wool is breathable, temperature-regulating, self-cleaning, and antibacterial. It supports body temperature regulation in both summer and winter – especially valuable for babies, as they cannot yet fully regulate their own temperature.
Sizes & Tables
Guidelines for selection, size chart and measurement chart for long-sleeved shirts/sweaters.
How do I find the right size?
Baby and children's clothing sizes are determined by the child's height. For a height of 53 cm, we recommend size 50–56 .
Age ranges are for guidance only. For gifts for newborns, we recommend size 62–68 if the newborn's height is unknown.
Rule of thumb for sleeping bag length: Body length – head length + 10 cm = sleeping bag length
| Clothing size | Old | height | Sleeping bag length |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50–56 | 0–3 months | 50–56 cm | 60 cm |
| 62–68 | 0–6 months | 62–68 cm | 70 cm |
| 68–80 | 6–12 months | 68–89 cm | 90 cm |
| 80–98 | 12–18 months | 80–101 cm | 110 cm |
| 98–116 | 3–6 years | 101–116 cm | 130 cm |
Merino wool naturally has elasticity. Knitting techniques can enhance this effect – which is why merino baby clothes can often be worn for longer.
Long-sleeved shirts / sweaters
We provide the age as a guideline. The wool, in combination with the weave, has a slight stretch effect, which is why the shirts tend to run large.
| Old | Clothing size | Body length | Chest circumference | Hip | sleeve | Back |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 92 | 87–92 cm | 52 cm | 48 cm | 40 cm | 37 cm |
| 3 | 98 | 93–98 cm | 54 cm | 51 cm | 44 cm | 41 cm |
| 4 | 104 | 99–104 cm | 56 cm | 53 cm | 50 cm | 45 cm |
| 5 | 110 | 105–110 cm | 58 cm | 55 cm | 53 cm | 46 cm |
| 6 | 116 | 111–116 cm | 60 cm | 57 cm | 56 cm | 47 cm |
| 7 | 122 | 117–122 cm | 62 cm | 59 cm | 59 cm | 50 cm |
| 8 | 128 | 123–128 cm | 64 cm | 60 cm | 62 cm | 53 cm |
| 10 | 140 | 135–140 cm | 68 cm | 64 cm | 68 cm | 58 cm |
| 12 | 152 | 147–152 cm | 72 cm | 68 cm | 74 cm | 62 cm |
| 14 | 164 | 159–164 cm | 76 cm | 72 cm | 78 cm | 66 cm |
Care & Washing
This is how Merino wool stays beautiful for a long time – with just a few, correct steps.
Is there anything I need to be aware of when doing laundry?
Pure merino wool products do not need to be washed often – airing them out is usually sufficient.
If washing is necessary: hand wash or machine wash up to 40°C .
- Select the delicate, hand wash or wool wash program.
- Spin speed: max. 60 revolutions
- Close zippers; ideally use a laundry bag.
- Do not use fabric softener or hygiene softener.
- Do not tumble dry
Use a special wool detergent (e.g., Perwoll ) or shampoo. Baby detergents (e.g., Filetti Sensitive) are not suitable for merino wool.
When hand washing, do not scrub vigorously and do not wring.
Why can't I use baby detergent for washing wool?
Many detergents – even those labeled "gentle" or "sensitive" – are alkaline. Wool is an animal fiber and, like human skin, has a low pH value. A wool detergent is therefore acidic to neutral to prevent the fiber from drying out.
Merino wool is comparable to human hair – therefore, shampoo can also be used on it.
Why does ironing remove the label?
Our baby clothes use heat transfer labels: recyclable and comfortable because they don't scratch. These labels are heat-sensitive – please do not iron over the label area. Tumble drying can also cause the label to detach.
